Accessing Library Resources Remotely
UMB students, faculty, and staff wishing to use our services and resources must do so remotely.
To login to the Library's online journals, databases, and e-books from off-campus, click on the blue Off-Campus Access button on the upper right-hand side of the Library's website. You will be prompted to enter your UMID and password. Anyone accessing online resources from on campus will not be prompted for a UMID and password.
You may email the Information Services Staff with access questions Monday - Sunday from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Online Reference Service
Online reference service is available Monday - Saturday from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. You may email the Information Services Staff with questions.
Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery
Journal articles and chapters from books may be requested through Request Articles or Books. No book loan service until further notice.
Books already borrowed through ILL must be returned to the Library within 2 weeks after reopening on September 14. Books may be placed in the external book drop located to the left of the HSHSL front doors. Users who fail to return a book will be charged for its replacement. Returning or Renewing a Book
You may return a book in the Library’s external bookdrop located to the left of the HSHSL front doors. Renew a book online using the My Account feature in the Library’s Catalog. No library fines will be accrued during the closure. All due dates for HSHSL books checked out before September 30, 2020 have been advance to January 8, 2021.
Book Requests
No books from other libraries will be delivered to the HSHSL due to the closure.
Room Reservations
We are not accepting any new meeting room reservations.
Access HSHSL Resources Easily!
If you are a UMB faculty, staff, or student and are on-campus (in a UMB building) you can search for journal articles and books online, no need to log in with your UMID and password or to go to the HSHSL homepage. You will be recognized by your IP address.
If you are off-campus, go to the HSHSL homepage to log in. See the big blue Off-Campus Access button in the upper right-hand corner of our page? Click and enter your UMID and password for full-text access to journals we subscribe to. Users on mobile devices should tap the red Menu button to find the Off-Campus Access button.
Using Google Scholar off-campus? To get to full-text easily make sure you do a quick settings change.
Look at the upper left-hand corner of Google Scholar, click on the 3 parallel lines icon and you will see a link to Settings, click, then choose Library Links.
Type Maryland into the search bar and then choose the Health Sciences and Human Services Library, Univ of Maryland (Find It @ HSHSL) and click Save.
Now, when searching Google Scholar you will now see a link on the right-hand side when you come to an article that the HSHSL subscribes to.
