Whiteboard Project: Best Book Series Adaptation?

With season 7 of the popular TV show Game of Thrones drawing to a close in August, we were interested in which well-known book series had produced the best film or TV adaptation. Somewhat surprisingly given all the recent hype, Game of Thrones only came in third place out of four among our voters. The Harry Potter movies came in second place, and the Lord of the Rings films were the clear favorites. The James Bond movies were the most unloved, garnering only six votes. It seems we have many Tolkien fans out there!

Don’t miss your chance to weigh in on our current poll about the best chairs in the library – come by and vote! Continue reading

Whiteboard Project: Which Citation Manager Do You Prefer?

There are lots of options out there for citation management software, and we wanted to know which one you like best! RefWorks is available for free to the UMB community through HS/HSL, and EndNote is now available at a discount through the campus technology office. If you want to learn more about how to use citation managers to save time while writing, talk to a librarian or attend one of our workshops! Continue reading

Whiteboard Project: Best Anatomy Atlas?

We asked, you answered. Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy trounced Gray’s Atlas of Anatomy in last week’s whiteboard poll. Perhaps this result reflects the number of people who are still loyal fans of the Grey’s Anatomy TV show after all these years… Regardless of which version you prefer, we have a wide variety of anatomy atlases available for checkout.

Be sure to stop by the library to weigh in on our current poll, RefWorks vs. EndNote for citation management!  Continue reading

Whiteboard Project: Is OLD BAY® Just for Crabs?

In one of our most decisive polls yet, it is clear we have a lot of OLD BAY® fans here! Most of you do not believe this Maryland-born seasoning should only be used on steamed crabs. However, the crabs-only folks are not without some support, as the original name of OLD BAY® was “Delicious Brand Shrimp and Crab Seasoning.”¹ Those more adventurous in using the seasoning suggested french fries and pizza – any other ideas?
