History & Vision
Frieda O. Weise Gallery
The Weise Gallery is named in honor of Frieda O. Weise, former executive director of the HSHSL and an accomplished photographer. As director, Frieda had a vision for the Library: that it should serve as a community resource and a gathering place, inviting diverse communities from UMB and beyond. And as an experienced photographer, Frieda noticed that the first floor of the Library − with its ample wall space, bold architecture, and abundant natural light − was a perfect environment in which to view and appreciate art.
Frieda O. Weise served as the Executive Director of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library, University of Maryland, Baltimore from 1991-2003.
