Databases

  •  Databases are available outside the library building only to UMB faculty/staff who are in the UMB payroll system, currently enrolled students (except those in the School of Law*), and UMMC employees who have a faculty appointment within one of the UMB schools. A UMID and password are required to access the databases from off campus.

Lexicomp for Dentistry

Lexicomp's dentistry includes information on drugs and natural therapeutics, oral diseases, implants, endodontics, clinical periodontics, oral surgery for the general dentist, treatment of medically compromised patients, and in-office medical emergencies. Also included are drug monographs for more than 1600 drugs, as well as drug identification and drug interactions and instant dental alerts for selected medications.

Lexicomp Online

This database is updated daily and provides full text access to point-of-care information from 13 clinical databases and 4 clinical applications. Databases include Lexi-Drugs, Pediatric Lexi-Drugs, and Geriatric Lexi-Drugs as well as Clinician's Guides to Diagnosis, Internal Medicine and Laboratory Medicine. Clinical Applications include drug interactions, tablet & capsule identification, medical calculations and patient advisory leaflets. The Databases and Clinical Applications correspond to the series of handbooks published by Lexi-Comp.

LGBT Life with Full Text

This database provides full-text coverage for the most important literature regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. Offering a variety of scholarly, popular and regional resources, it includes journals, books, magazines and more.
 

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA)

 This database provides indexing and abstracting for key library and information science journals, books, research reports and more. It is EBSCO's intention to provide access to this resource on a continual basis. Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) indexes more than 600 core journals and more than 80 selective journals. Coverage in this free research database extends as far back as the mid-1960s. LISTA also includes author profiles and a robust thesaurus.

Masterfile Premier

Provides full text for approximately 1,840 general reference, business, consumer health, general science, and multi-cultural periodicals. It also offers indexing and abstracts for approximately 2,810 periodicals. Full text backfiles go as far back as January of 1990, while indexing and abstract backfiles go as far back as January of 1984. Updated daily.

MedEdPortal

MedEdPORTAL is a free, cross-indexed suite of services provided by the Association of American Medical Colleges. Through Publications, iCollaborative, and the CE Directory, MedEdPORTAL aims to equip healthcare professionals across the continuum with effective and efficient educational tools to improve patient care. Publications maintain a rigorous peer review process based on standards used in the scholarly publishing community. Modules submitted to Publications are considered "stand-alone" and complete, have been classroom tested and are ready for implementation by members at their own institutions.

Medical and Health Information Directory provides a comprehensive guide to organizations, agencies and institutions; publications and information sources; and services and programs in the medicine and health-related fields.

MEDLINE EBSCO (1809 to the present)

MEDLINE provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree, tree hierarchy, subheadings and explosion capabilities to search citations from over 4,800 current biomedical journals.

MEDLINE Ovid (1946 to current with Daily Update)

Updated daily, MEDLINE on Ovid offers access to bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 5,500 biomedicine and life sciences journals in nearly 40 languages (60 languages for older journals). English abstracts are included in more than 80% of the records.

MedOne Neurosurgery

From Thieme Publishers, a comprehensive source of neurosurgical content.  It contains: 186 e-books, 418 procedures, 225 cases, 85,600 images, 1,102 videos and the Greenberg Rapid Review (8th ed.) training center for self-testing.

Micromedex 2.0

A collection of databases which support clinical decision-making and high-quality patient care by providing drug information, including drug interactions, drug comparisons, and drug ID. Micromedex® is available free to current faculty, staff and students at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Through special agreements, School of Pharmacy preceptors may also access the system.

Military and Government Collection

Designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. The Military & Government Collection provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 260 journals and periodicals and indexing and abstracting for 430 journals and periodicals. 

National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts

This collection offers summaries of important law enforcement and criminal justice publications including books, government reports, research reports, journals and unpublished research. It serves as a valuable research tool for criminal justice professionals, researchers and policymakers. National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts provides more than 220,000 collection records for criminal justice, juvenile justice and substance abuse resources. It offers a wide array of sources from state and local governments as well as international records. All documents are either written in English or have an English-language summary.
 

National Newspapers Core & Baltimore Sun

The newspapers in this collection are the Christian Science Monitor, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Baltimore Sun and Los Angeles Times. Refer to database for coverage dates.

Natural Medicines

The research and editorial team at Therapeutic Research Center put their drug information and literature evaluation skills to work to produce a highly objective, evidence-based resource designed for healthcare professionals. It  is made up of multiple databases. The core database contains the detailed, evidence-based monographs on individual natural ingredients (e.g., glucosamine, echinacea, etc). There are currently almost 1200 monographs on these individual natural ingredients.

NetAnatomy

NetAnatomy is designed to teach human anatomy to students of the health professions, including undergraduate medical, health sciences, and nursing students. NetAnatomy also serves as a place to review anatomy after one’s initial exposure to the subject, e.g. students beginning a clinical rotation, USMLE (National Board) preparation, etc.

Netlibrary (EBSCO eBook Collection)

It contains more than 160,000 eBooks, thousands of eAudiobooks, eJournals, subject centers and the collection development resources.

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations Union Catalog

The Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) is an international organization dedicated to promoting the adoption, creation, use, dissemination, and preservation of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs). We support electronic publishing and open access to scholarship in order to enhance the sharing of knowledge worldwide. Our website includes resources for university administrators, librarians, faculty, students, and the general public. Topics include how to find, create, and preserve ETDs; how to set up an ETD program; legal and technical questions; and the latest news and research in the ETD community.

OAISTER: Union Catalog of Digital Resources

OAIster is a union catalog of millions of records representing open access resources that was built by harvesting from open access collections worldwide using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). Today, OAIster includes more than 30 million records representing digital resources from more than 1,500 contributors.
 

OMIM : Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man

OMIM is a comprehensive, authoritative compendium of human genes and genetic phenotypes that is freely available and updated daily. The full-text, referenced overviews in OMIM contain information on all known mendelian disorders and over 12,000 genes. OMIM focuses on the relationship between phenotype and genotype. It is updated daily, and the entries contain copious links to other genetics resources.

OneSearch

OneSearch provides a fast, streamlined search of 50 databases and the Library catalog through a single search box. It searches for multiple types of library resources including scholarly articles, books, reviews, images and more. It does not search every database that the HS/HSL has access to.

PEDro : Physiotherapy Evidence Database

PEDro is a free database of over 34,000 randomized trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy. For each trial, review or guideline, PEDro provides the citation details, the abstract and a link to the full text, where possible. All trials on PEDro are independently assessed for quality. These quality ratings are used to quickly guide users to trials that are more likely to be valid and to contain sufficient information to guide clinical practice
 

Pivot

Community of Science (COS) Pivot database answers the growing demands on research developers to quickly discover the right funding opportunities and effectively collaborate with their colleagues. Pivot combines a comprehensive, editorially maintained database of funding opportunities worth an estimated $33 billion with a unique database of 3 million pre-populated scholar profiles, drawn from Community of Scholars and Community of Science profiles. Its algorithm compiles pre-populated researcher profiles unique to an organization and matches them to current funding opportunities in the COS database. This allows users to search for a funding opportunity and instantly view matching faculty from inside or outside an institution. Conversely, a search for a scholar will link to matching funding opportunities.

Professional Development Collection

Updated monthly, this repository for ready-to-use tests and measures from the APA features instruments that are relevant to psychology and related fields, such as psychiatry, education, medicine, business, social work and more.

International in scope, this resource provides access to thousands of actual test instruments, most of which are available for immediate download and use in teaching and research. PsycTESTS is an authoritative source of structured information about tests of interest to a variety of fields, and while focused on contemporary instances of test use, has coverage that spans more than a century.

PTSDpubs

PTSDpubs database (formerly PILOTS) is a freely available, online database providing access to the worldwide literature on PTSD and other mental health consequences of exposure to traumatic events. It is produced by the National Center for PTSD.

PTSDpubs has unique features that set it apart from other databases. PTSDpubs offers:

  • A custom PTSD and trauma focused thesaurus to help you create a precise search. PTSDpubs' unique thesaurus includes specific PTSD symptoms, like hypervigilance, as well as terms such as PTSD DSM-5 and PTSD (ICD-11) to help you search by diagnostic criteria.
  • A detailed listing of tests and measures. Each PTSDpubs record lists all instruments used within the publication, and you can limit your search to a specific test or measure.

PubChem provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. PubChem is organized as three linked databases within the NCBI's Entrez information retrieval system. These are PubChem Substance, PubChem Compound, and PubChem BioAssay. PubChem also provides a fast chemical structure similarity search tool.
 

PubMed (1809 to the present)

PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's Medline database that provides abstracts and indexing for about 4,600 biomedical journals published in the U.S. and 70 foreign countries and includes additional older citations and out of scope citations from Medline journals.

PubMed Central - Journal Archives

PubMed Central® (PMC) is a free full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM).

ScienceDirect

ScienceDirect is a database of full text journals. The full text of over 300 Elsevier titles is available. ScienceDirect also allows you to search by topic within its journal collection. However, full text is only available for those journals to which the Library subscribes.

SciFinder-n

SciFinder is a research tool providing chemical and related scientific information. It retrieves information contained in databases produced by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) as well as the MEDLINE database from the National Library of Medicine. In addition to patent and journal references, CAS's REGISTRY database provides information about organic and inorganic compounds and sequences. CASREACT provides chemical reaction information. Chemical source and registry information is provided through the CHEMCATS and CHEMLIST databases.

Scitable - Collaborative Learning Space

Scitable is a free online teaching/learning portal combining high quality educational articles with technology-based community features to fuel a global exchange of scientific insights, teaching practices, and study resources. Scitable currently contains scientist-authored educational articles in the fields of genetics, cell biology and ecology, and is intended for undergraduate faculty and students. Short eBooks on basic science as well as scientific communication and careers help readers connect across disciplines and imagine a future of science participation.

Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. Delivering a comprehensive overview of the world's research output in   the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts   and humanities, Scopus features smart tools to track, analyze and   visualize research.
 

Social Work Abstracts

Produced by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Social Work Abstracts  provides indexing and abstracts for over 500 journals, dating back to 1965, dealing with all aspects of the social work field, including theory and practice, areas of service and social issues and problems.

SocINDEX with Full Text

SocINDEX with Full Text offers comprehensive coverage of sociology, encompassing all sub-disciplines and closely related areas of study. In addition to providing access to 665 full-text journals, it also contains informative abstracts for core coverage journals dating as far back as 1895.
