{"id":1397,"date":"2014-09-10T09:11:48","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T13:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www2.hshsl.umaryland.edu\/hslupdates\/?p=1397"},"modified":"2014-09-10T09:11:48","modified_gmt":"2014-09-10T13:11:48","slug":"student-health-advocates-redefining-empowerment-share-project-curriculum-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.hshsl.umaryland.edu\/hslupdates\/?p=1397","title":{"rendered":"Student Health Advocates Redefining Empowerment (SHARE) Project Curriculum Released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hshsl.umaryland.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Health Sciences and Human Services Library<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>at University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) announces the release of the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/guides.hshsl.umaryland.edu\/projectshare\" target=\"_blank\">Student Health Advocates Redefining Empowerment (SHARE) Curriculum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Empowering High School Students<\/h4>\n<p>This curriculum was developed as the result of a three-year \u201cHealth Information Resource Grant to Reduce Health Disparities\u201d from the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Library of Medicine<\/a>. The grant aimed to empower high school students as community health advocates, improve health in Baltimore neighborhoods, and develop a replicable student health advocacy program.<\/p>\n<h4>SHARE Modules<\/h4>\n<p>The entire curriculum consists of six modules, which can be used independently or together.<\/p>\n<p>1. Overview of Health Disparities<br \/>\n2. Quality Health Information<br \/>\n3. Taking Charge of Your Health<br \/>\n4. Smart Food Choices<br \/>\n5. Crafting and Delivering the Message<br \/>\n6. Promoting Health and Wellness in Your Community<\/p>\n<p>These modules were developed after working with two cohorts of students from<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimorecityschools.org\/429\" target=\"_blank\">Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>in Baltimore. In addition to detailed lesson plans, each class has assignments and handouts and is aligned with national standards. Supplemental activities are also provided.
