{"id":1776,"date":"2015-08-06T09:16:03","date_gmt":"2015-08-06T13:16:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www2.hshsl.umaryland.edu\/hslupdates\/?p=1776"},"modified":"2015-08-06T09:16:03","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T13:16:03","slug":"data-science-hackathon-september-21-23-in-baltimore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.hshsl.umaryland.edu\/hslupdates\/?p=1776","title":{"rendered":"Data Science Hackathon &#8211; September 21-23 in Baltimore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NIH <a href=\"https:\/\/datascience.nih.gov\/bd2k\">Big Data to Knowledge<\/a> (BD2K) program and the <a href=\"http:\/\/nihlibrary.nih.gov\/\">NIH Library<\/a> are pleased to join the Johns Hopkins (JHU) Bloomberg School of Public Health <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jhsph.edu\/departments\/biostatistics\/\">Department of Biostatistics<\/a> in announcing the first <a href=\"https:\/\/regonline.com\/jhudash\">JHU DaSH<\/a> \u2013 Data Science Hackathon \u2013 on September 21-23, 2015 in Baltimore.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers\u2013 Drs. Brian Caffo, Leah Jager, Jeff Leek and Roger Peng \u2013 include JHU professors who teach the popular Coursera <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coursera.org\/specialization\/jhudatascience\/1\">Data Science Specialization<\/a>. This Data Science Hackathon will provide an opportunity for hands-on training that reinforces and builds on data management and analysis skills such as those covered in the MOOC specialization (completion of the specialization is not a prerequisite).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This event will be an opportunity for data scientists and data scientists-in-training to get together and hack on real-world problems collaboratively and to learn from each other.\u00a0 The DaSH will feature data scientists from government, academia, and industry presenting problems and describing challenges in their respective areas. There will also be a number of networking opportunities where attendees can get to know each other.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8212; Simply Statistics <a href=\"http:\/\/simplystatistics.org\/2015\/07\/28\/announcing-the-jhu-data-science-hackathon-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>JHU DaSH will provide a local opportunity for NIH scientists and trainees to participate in a data science Hackathon.
