The Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL) signed two <strong data-start=\"777\" data-end=\"808\">Read and Publish agreements<\/strong> with major academic publishers <strong data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"862\">Elsevier and Wiley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"1053\">These agreements allow UMB faculty, staff, and students to publish open access in selected journals <em data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"1015\">without paying article processing charges (APCs)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1075\">Here\u2019s how it works:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1372\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1134\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1078\" data-end=\"1134\">You must be the <strong data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1118\">corresponding author<\/strong> on the article.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1197\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1137\" data-end=\"1197\">The article must be accepted by a <strong>participating<\/strong><strong data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1196\">\u00a0journal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1198\" data-end=\"1372\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1200\" data-end=\"1372\">When completing the copyright and licensing agreements in the journal publisher\u2019s portal., you\u2019ll be prompted to choose the free OA option if the journal is eligible and funding is still available.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1461\">This benefit is limited, so if the option isn\u2019t visible during submission, it may mean:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1578\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1504\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1504\">The journal isn\u2019t part of the agreement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1578\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1507\" data-end=\"1578\">UMB\u2019s allotment of OA publishing credits for the year has been used up.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1720\">To explore eligible journals and get more guidance, visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.hshsl.umaryland.edu\/openaccess\/publishing-support\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1642\" data-end=\"1697\">Open Access guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1722\" data-end=\"1989\">\ud83d\udce9 Questions?<br data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"1738\" \/>For help with the OA agreements, contact <strong data-start=\"1781\" data-end=\"1798\">Steve Douglas<\/strong> at <a href=\"mailto:sdouglas@hshsl.umaryland.edu\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1802\" data-end=\"1869\">sdouglas@hshsl.umaryland.edu<\/a>.<br data-start=\"1870\" data-end=\"1873\" \/>For general publishing questions and guidance, contact <a href=\"publishing@hshsl.umaryland.edu\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1917\" data-end=\"1988\">publishing@hshsl.umaryland.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Publishing open access (OA) is now easier and more affordable for UMB researchers.
