HSHSL Lactation Room

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL) supports nursing individuals by providing a clean, private and accessible lactation facility for all UMB faculty, staff, students, and guests.


Location

Third floor, Room 311 (directly under the stairs).

Features

  • Comfortable seating,
  • A storage refrigerator for labeled breast milk only
  • Cleaning supplies.

Please note: The HSHSL does not provide pumps, microwaves, or other personal equipment.

How to Access the Lactation Room

  1. Visit the HSHSL Information Services Desk.
  2. Present your campus ID to check out the lactation room key through the library system.
  3. The key is loaned for one-hour intervals, similar to borrowing a book.
  4. The room can be used as often as needed.
  5. Return the key to the Information Services Desk when finished.

The Information Servies Desk is staffed from 8 a.m. to closing Monday through Friday and on the weekends.

Guidelines and Instructions

  • Cleaning supplies are provided. Please be mindful of other users and consider sanitization of surfaces and spaces before and after use.
  • A refrigerator is provided for storage of labeled breast milk only.
  • Please follow the overall UMB Guidelines for Breastfeeding Individuals.
  • Return the key to the Information Services Desk.
