Laura Marden
“Herd Beast and Fleur de Lis”
May 8 – July 14, 2006
Beginning May 8th, the Weise Gallery will feature the works of Baltimore artist, Laura Marden. Her paintings, energized by her deep love of all living things, introduce primal animal figures, reminiscent of Paleolithic cave paintings. The Dawn Cattle (Aurochs) and Preshistoric Horses (Equus) rest upon abstract earth-toned color fields and float within clouds of fleur de lis.
Laura Marden was born in Maryland but migrated across America with her mother, ending up in Marin County, California. She returned to Baltimore to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art where she received her BFA. Currently, she is employed as a faux painter.
A reception celebrating the exhibit will be held from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on May 11, 2006.
My daughter loved the picture in your article. She said that it looked like the cows in our barn where they graze the field.
