‘To Boldly Go’ by Dahven White
The HSHSL Weise Gallery is hosting a fascinating exhibit by artist Dahven White. “Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts” showcases White’s amazing felt artwork. Felting is widely considered the world’s oldest textile art. White primarily uses sheep’s wool and recycled sweaters to create unpredictable three-dimensional organic shapes. Her art and wearables have been featured in many juried exhibitions and art shows.
Artist Statement
Each of the pieces in this show can stand alone, but together they create a rich landscape, filled with mystery and surprise. Because we overvalue what we can see, I have tried to peer into places we do not see. By combining unpredictable objects and upsetting the sense of scale, I challenge the viewer to hold complexity and paradox… to imagine a world that is greater than the sum of its parts.
