Last year, the HSHSL Diversity Committee began a quest to recognize the things that make each member of our campus unique. Woven Stories, a collection of photograph submissions of things culturally significant to members of the UMB community, was meant to be installed as an exhibit in the Weise Gallery in April 2022. Although Woven Stories never reached the Weise Gallery, it created a beautiful, campus curated collection of blog entries that have defined and redefined the parameters of what we call “culture”. Entries included historical family portraits and homes, heirlooms passed down through generations, musical instruments, recipes, stories about familial traditions and more. Woven Stories will launch again this year, in hopes of showcasing the infinite meaning of individual, familial and societal culture and tradition.
So, how do you define culture? Be bold and creative! Submissions should be in the form of a photograph and a brief description of its importance to you.
Photographs must be at least 1200 x 1200 pixels. Multiple submissions are welcome. Submissions can be made anonymously by leaving the name and email fields on the form blank.
