UnMasking a Pandemic: Stories from UMB during COVID-19

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is currently witnessing a historic event. Like the flu pandemic in 1918, researchers and historians of the future are going to study the COVID-19 pandemic and the campus community's experiences during this world event. The HSHSL is collecting UMB's official and public responses to the pandemic through the UMB Digital Archive. However, in an effort to capture the everyday stories and experiences of the campus community, the HSHSL is launching the UnMasking a Pandemic: Stories from UMB during COVID-19 project.

How Can I Help?
Submit a personal account using the UnMasking a Pandemic: Stories from UMB during COVID-19 Survey. Campus members have been affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic in different ways; please reflect on the ways in which it has affected you and your family. Please only share what you feel comfortable being made public.

The HSHSL is interested in receiving items of personal reflection, creative work, or anything that documents your thoughts and emotions during this incredible time. Items can include:

  • journal entries
  • personal essays
  • poems
  • photographs (or other visual art pieces)
  • music or other audio recordings
  • videos
  • screenshots of personal websites, blogs, or social media posts

The survey allows submissions in a variety of formats but participants are also welcome to compose their reflections directly into the survey.

Looking for Inspiration?
Here are some prompts that may help you to reflect on your experience:

  • What has daily life been like for you? How have things changed?
  • How have you, your family members, and your friends been impacted by the virus?
  • What would you like others to know about your experience?
