Joe Giffels
“Subterranean Blue”
November 22, 2004 – January 15, 2005
By day, you will find Joe Giffels, Director of the Research Integrity Office, in Academic Affairs. In his off-work hours you will find him exploring the natural history of the Chesapeake Bay as an inspiration for his unique style of art. Beginning on November 22 and running until January 15, 2005, Giffels’ images will be on display in the Frieda O. Weise Gallery on the first floor of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library.
“The works in this exhibition are not photographs,” says Giffels. “Found, natural objects are scanned on a desktop laser scanner. The resulting electronic files are then manipulated and printed onto photographic paper.”
Giffels, a UMB employee since 1990, is a 25 year resident of Maryland. Approximately two dozen of his images will be on display. With a few exceptions, the pieces in the exhibition are for sale. Prints of most of the images are also available.
Joe, glad to see you are still the Renaissance Man of Science and the Arts. Congratulations on your many accomplishments! Many fond memories of our 4 years together in “the Heights”. . . Kat Crane
