George Hagegeorge
July 9, 2004 – September 10, 2004
After 20 years of composing, engineering, and producing music, George Hagegeorge has discovered a new instrument, the digital camera. Hagegeorge’s latest “compositions” were the focus of a summer 2004 exhibit at the Frieda O. Weise Gallery in the HS/HSL.
Hagegeorge, who works in the School of Nursing, learned film photography basics in the early 1990’s from filmmaker, Cheryl Fair, and has done camera and editing work for small indie film and video projects. After working with a phone camera in August 2003, his interest in still photography grew. He credits Dr. Barbara Covington with encouraging him to switch from the phone camera to the standard digital camera. Now working exclusively with a Nikon digital camera, he sometimes enhances or modifies the images with software. Hagegeorge captures a wide variety of subject with his images including still lifes and the HS/HSL. Publications featuring Hagegeorge’s photos include U.S. News and World Reports, The Maryland Bar Bulletin, The Baltimore Sun, The Maryland Nurse, Nursing Spectrum, and the University of Maryland School of Nursing’s Pulse.
“George’s images are vibrant and exciting – it’s hard to believe that he has only been doing this since last September!” said M.J. Tooey, Executive Director.
