Spring 2013 Workshops
The HS/HSL will be offering a variety of workshops throughout the Spring Semester. Topics covered will include, RefWorks, Embase in 30, and NIH Public Access Policy. Volunteer for the Discovery Service @ HS/HSL Usability Study
Help the HS/HSL improve our new search tool!
Volunteer to help us examine the navigation and organization of the HS/HSL’s Discovery Service Search Tool. You will spend no more than an hour completing several tasks using the discovery tool. Your input will help us make changes and improvements to the tool!
All volunteers will receive a $5 gift card to Au Bon Pain!

New NIH: Public Access Compliance Monitor
NIH has announced the release of the Public Access Compliance Monitor, a web-based tool taht institutions can use to track compliance of publications that fall under the NIH Public Access Policy. According to the NIH, “By providing efficient and flexible methods for retrieving, viewing, and organizing public compliance information, the compliance monitor supports the efforst of grantee organizations to ensure their awards are complaint.” Click here for more information.
NIH Public Access Policy Webinar (Jan. 15th)
The NIH has announced it will hold a webinar (http://1.usa.gov/VaVSLC) on January 15 “to assist grantee institutions with guidance and resources related to the NIH Public Access Policy, upcoming changes, tools, and how non-compliance will affect awards.” NIH earlier announced that in the spring, at the earliest, it “will hold processing of non-competing continuation awards if publications arising from grant awards are not in compliance with the Public Access Policy.”
Coming January 7th – Easier Access to Library Resources
On January, 7th, 2013 logging into the HS/HSL resources from off-campus will change. We are moving to the myUM ID and password to allow you to work seamlessly among campus resources after signing in just once. No more barcode and last name – just use your myUM ID and password. To set up a myUM ID account, go to: https://directory.umaryland.edu. This is what you will see:
