Ever wish you could take potions class like Harry Potter? Take a break from your academic routine at the HS/HSL on Wednesday, October 19th for the next event in the Harry Potter Series.

Lecture: The Medicinal Magic of Modern Compounding: Potions Class for the 21st Century

Richard Dalby, Professor and Associate Dean, School of Pharmacy

Wednesday October 19th,  12:oo pm – 1:00 pm, Distance Education Room Lower Level (LL02)

Professors Richard Dalby and James Polis will provide a modern twist on Potions Class by explaining how pharmacists compound medications to meet critical patients care needs. Using colored dyes in place for drugs, they will demonstrate how creams, thermosetting gels, powder papers or capsules can deliver customized medications to patients.

The Historical Collections Room will be close from October 3rd – October 7th. It will reopen Monday, October 10th.

Please come to the HS/HSL’s Weise Gallery, September 26th from 4:30 pm-6:00 pm for the opening reception of the Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine exhibit. Harry Potter is coming to UM! Visit “Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine”, an exhibit on display at the Health Sciences & Human Services Library from September 18 – November 5. The exhibit uses the National Library of Medicine’s History of Medicine collections to explore the world of Harry Potter, its roots in Renaissance science, and the ethical questions that affected not only the wizards in J.K. Rowling’s books, but also the historical thinkers featured in the series. Exhibit panels present the works of 15th- and 16th-century scholars and explore their perceptions of natural philosophy, medicine, and magic. Renaissance texts are used to highlight some of the fantastic creatures and plants featured in the novels.
