NIH has announced the release of the Public Access Compliance Monitor, a web-based tool taht institutions can use to track compliance of publications that fall under the NIH Public Access Policy. According to the NIH, “By providing efficient and flexible methods for retrieving, viewing, and organizing public compliance information, the compliance monitor supports the efforst of grantee organizations to ensure their awards are complaint.” Click here for more information.

The NIH has announced it will hold a webinar (http://1.usa.gov/VaVSLC) on January 15 “to assist grantee institutions with guidance and resources related to the NIH Public Access Policy, upcoming changes, tools, and how non-compliance will affect awards.” NIH earlier announced that in the spring, at the earliest, it “will hold processing of non-competing continuation awards if publications arising from grant awards are not in compliance with the Public Access Policy.”

On January, 7^th, 2013 logging into the HS/HSL resources from off-campus will change. We are moving to the myUM ID and password to allow you to work seamlessly among campus resources after signing in just once. No more barcode and last name – just use your myUM ID and password. The Annals of Internal Medicine is having a site outage at www.annals.org. Some of Silverchair’s other journals are also affected.

ScienceDirect will be performing scheduled maintenance on Saturday, December 1st and advise that there may be minor disruptions to database functionality during this time.

An exhibit will be on display in the Health Science & Human Services Library’s Weise Gallery, highlighting the high cost of scientific information and presenting Open Access as an alternative to expensive journals.
