Domestic violence is a form of abuse that often involves a spouse or partner, but it can also be directed towards a child, older adult, or other family member. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the National Library of Medicine has domestic violence prevention resources available for the general public and special populations, such as older adults, children/teens, non-English speakers, and individuals who are HIV positive:
- General Public: MedlinePlus has a Health Topics page on Domestic Violence, including links to prevention and safety planning information, how to find an expert, and information for children and teens.
- Older Adults: Find a summary about elder abuse and links to prevention and reporting resources on MedlinePlus.
- Children/Teens: MedlinePlus has Health Topics pages on Child Abuse, Child Sexual Abuse, and Teen Violence, with links to resources for prevention and reporting abuse.
- Multilingual Resources: Resources in document, video, and audio format, in multiple languages, are available on HealthReach under the topic of domestic violence.
- Individuals with HIV/AIDS: AIDSource includes a list of domestic violence prevention resources targeted towards individuals with HIV/AIDS.
