OSF Projects is coming to an end

The Center for Open Science (COS) will begin to phase out OSF Projects this fall. OSF Projects is the part of OSF used for project collaboration, file management, and storage.

As part of this transition:

  • Beginning November 16, 2026: You will no longer be able to create new OSF Projects or child components within existing projects.

  • Beginning February 19, 2027: All OSF Projects will be read-only. You will continue to have access to all project materials, but no further changes or additions can be made. All public links and DOI identifiers to content will remain so that shared content is persistent, discoverable, and accessible.

The OSF will continue to host and expand features for:

  • Study planning and preregistration

  • Sharing papers and preprints

  • Linking plans, data, materials, code, papers, and other research contents together

Learn more about the reasons for this change and actions you can take.

This means that OSF will no longer be an option if you need to share data in accordance with funder or journal requirements. If you need help choosing an alternative repository, schedule a consultation with a data services librarian or email data@hshsl.umaryland.edu with questions.
