The new Director of National Library of Medicine (NLM) Patricia Flatley Brennan, RN, PhD puts a strong focus on precision medicine in the vision she describes for NLM:
I believe the National Library of Medicine has an important role to play in the Precision Medicine Initiative…and I believe that role’s going to be showing up in a number of the existing services already seen in the Library…
National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines precision medicine is “an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person.”
You can learn more about precision medicine and how NIH is already playing an important role in the Precision Medicine Initiative through a number of NLM resources:
Access to HS/HSL databases and the A-Z list of journals has been restored.
Access to HS/HSL databases and journals are currently down. We are working to resolve the issue. The One Search box on the Library’s homepage is still working to access full-text.
The HS/HSL offers poster printing to all UMB faculty, students, and staff and University of Maryland Medical Center staff. Posters will be printed in support of academic, professional, and research purposes.
All posters can be picked up at the Information Services Desk.
Learning new technology skills and workflows can be very challenging, especially when strapped for time. Online resources like Lynda.com and edX help people meet these challenges through self-paced video tutorials and projects. Join HS/HSL’s Technology Brown Bag series on August 31st from 12-12:45 pm in room LL05, to learn how to navigate the best of these online resources with regard to:
– genomics
– statistical analysis
– data visualization
– design
– computer programming
